Visconde de Mauá is an area of mountains, waterfalls and valleys situated along the Rio Preto at the border of the state of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. The website for the area says that it is one of the few locations in Brasil where you can still swim in river water that is clean and crystal clear. Viewing the area from the crest of the mountain, at 1400 km, reminds Lama Chimed of his home area in the Nyagrong River Valley of Tibet. From this point of the mountain pass, looking north, you see Pedra Selada. Our land is just before this beautiful peak which looks, to a Tibetan, like the beak of a Garuda.
From Via Dutra exit RJ 163 to Visconde de Mauá. Proceed east through the town of Mauá on RJ 151 toward Campo Alegre. Our driveway is off of RJ 151 just 2 km past Ponte dos Cachorros or 1 km past Posada Terras Altas to the right. The retreat land is 0,5 km down the driveway on the left; you will see the prayer flags just before the gate.
